Carl F. Herbold graduated cum laude from Dartmouth
College with a B.A. in Honors History in 1962. He received his law degree
from Yale Law School, where he was president of Corbey Court, in 1968. Mr.
Herbold was admitted to the Connecticut bar in 1968. He also received the
M.Phil and PhD. degrees in history from the Yale Graduate School in 1968 and
1973, respectively. After a teaching career at Yale, Rutgers University, the
University of New Mexico, and Pomona College, including a year as a
Fulbright Scholar in Peru, he became a member of the California Bar in 1981.
Mr. Herbold practiced at Musick, Peeler & Garrett in Los Angeles, Hanson,
Bridgett, Marcus, Vlahos & Stromberg in Newport Beach, and Best, Best &
Kreiger in Riverside before establishing his own practice in Claremont in
1991. He joined Buxbaum & Chakmak as of counsel in 1999.
Mr. Herbold concentrates his practice in employment law (representing
employees and employers in all matters except worker’s compensation,
benefits, and collective bargaining), as well as general business law. He
also specializes in representing nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations and
represents a number of local, state-wide and national organizations. In
addition, he serves as a mediator and has assisted in the settlement of over
50 lawsuits.
Mr. Herbold has been president of the boards of the Eastern (Los Angeles
County) Bar Association, the San Gabriel Valley Lawyer Referral Service, and
several local charitable organizations; he is a board member of several
others. He is a member of the Labor and Employment Law sections of the
American Bar Association, the California Bar, and the Los Angeles County Bar
Association, and has lectured on topics in employment law to professional
groups. He is also the past chair of the Committee on Nonprofit Corporations
and Unincorporated Associations of the Business Law Section of the
California Bar.
Mr. Herbold is fluent in Spanish, and has a speaking and reading ability in
both French and Portuguese.
